I · Why it lands

The gift that survives the pile

The case for a spa gift over more stuff is clearer at Christmas than at any other point in the year. Most adults you are buying for have a closet, a kitchen, and a garage full of things they did not need. What they have less of: an hour where no one needs anything from them.

The holiday stretch from Thanksgiving through New Year's is also the most physically and emotionally taxing run of the year for many people. Mayo Clinic Health System notes that massage can help ease symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress, and Mayo Clinic on the role of massage therapy for mental health describes hands-on bodywork as a supportive practice for emotional reset. Both are exactly the registers a holiday recipient is in.

The American Massage Therapy Association tracks consumer survey data showing that massage is a top "would actually use" gift category — much higher actual-redemption rates than the pile of objects that end up at the consignment store by March. The spa gift card moves from "thoughtful in December" to "lifeline in late January" without any input from the recipient between.

"What most adults you are buying for have less of than they did last year is not stuff. It is an hour where no one needs anything from them."

II · Curated Christmas picks

Seven gifts, seven recipients

Hot Stone Massage

$110

60 minutes. Warm basalt stones along the back and shoulders. The winter classic — pairs perfectly with cold December weather. Universal pick for parents, in-laws, partners.

Couples Massage (Candle-Lit)

$220

60 minutes, side by side in the dedicated couples room at Glenside. The first-Christmas, new-parents, or quiet-30th-anniversary gift. Books out fast in late December — gift card with 'use in January' note is the cleaner play.

Hydration Facial

$100

60 minutes. Warm towels, gentle cleansing, hydrating mask, head and neck work. The safest universal gift — works for moms, mothers-in-law, sisters, college-aged daughters, friends.

60-min Migraine Massage + Face Gua Sha

$110

Head, neck, shoulder focus with a closing Face Gua Sha pass. For the family member who spent December staring at screens, hosting, or driving — the reset they did not buy themselves.

Reflexology + Herbal Foot Bath

$80

60 minutes. Foot-focused work with a warm herbal soak. Approachable for anyone who 'does not love massage' but will gladly sit clothed and quiet for an hour.

100-min Massage + Facial Combo

$200

50-min Hot Stone Massage + 50-min Hydration Facial. The grand-spa-morning version — works for the recipient who has everything and the recipient who needs a real reset.

Custom amount card

$50 – $500

Open-amount card if you want to let the recipient pick. Most clients land between $100 and $200; $300+ for couples and parents; $50 is a respectful stocking-stuffer or team Secret Santa amount.

Prices are approximate session value. Gift cards are open-amount and stack with any add-on (hot stones, gua sha, scalp, hand-and-foot hydration).

III · Team & corporate gifts

Year-end appreciation, in bulk

December is when "thanks for the year" gifts go out — to a small team, a client list, the babysitter, the dog walker, the property manager, the regular hair stylist. We process a lot of these. A few practical patterns we have learned:

  • 5 to 10 cards at the same denomination — call us, give us the list of emails + names, we send them in one batch. Takes about 15 minutes.
  • 20+ cards for a corporate roster — give us a day of lead time. We will coordinate amounts, custom messages, and delivery windows so they all land the same morning.
  • Mixed amounts — fine. The bigger card for the leadership-team gift, the smaller card for the wider thank-you list, all on one invoice.
  • Printed cards mailed directly — we can write a calligraphy message on each sleeve and mail to individual addresses if that is the format you want.

Spa gift cards also work as a clean, undramatic Secret Santa or white-elephant pick. A $50 card is a respectful price-cap gift that nearly everyone will actually use, unlike the rotating set of novelty mugs.

IV · Holiday timing

When to buy, when to redeem

Buying. Any time between November and Christmas Eve. Online + phone orders process within 5 minutes; printed cards are available at either location during open hours through Dec 24. We are closed Christmas Day.

Redeeming. The recipient can book whenever. The realistic pattern: most December gift cards get redeemed in mid-January through February — clients call it the "after the holidays" reset window. This is actually the calmest stretch in our schedule, so booking is easier in January than December.

Pairing with self-care follow-through. If the recipient might forget about the card, a small physical reminder (a sleeve in their kitchen drawer, a note on their phone) helps more than email-only. We will print sleeves on request even for e-card buyers.

V · How to send it

Three ways to deliver

1 · E-card (fastest)

Buy online through our Glenside gift card store or the Spring House gift card store. Pick the amount, write a personal message, check out. Lands in the recipient's inbox in a few minutes. Works on Christmas Eve.

2 · Printed card

Stop by either location during open hours through Dec 24. We hand you a printed card in a sleeve with a hand-written calligraphy message. Pair with a small flower, chocolate, or holiday card from a local Glenside or Spring House shop.

3 · Phone (most flexible)

Call (215) 824-8585. Best for multi-recipient batches, custom amounts, mailed printed cards, or specific delivery windows. We will take the order and confirm everything while you are still on the line.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast does a Christmas e-gift card arrive?

A Tao Spa Christmas e-gift card is delivered to the recipient's inbox within about 5 minutes of checkout. Phone orders work the same way — call (215) 824-8585, give us the amount and the email, and the card lands while we are still on the line. We have processed gift cards at 7 AM on Christmas morning for people who realized the night before that one stocking was light. It works.

Can I order Christmas gift cards for multiple people at once?

Yes. Many clients buy 5 to 10 cards in a single phone call for family members, team members, or a holiday round-robin. We can ship each card to a different email, write different message text on each, and even mail printed cards in sleeves to different street addresses. For 20+ cards (typically corporate or large-family orders), give us a day of lead time so we can batch them cleanly.

Does the gift card expire after the holidays?

No expiration. Recipients can use a December card in January, March, or two years from now. Pennsylvania law also protects gift card balances against arbitrary expiration. The 'January gift card window' — when people redeem holiday spa gifts — is one of our busiest stretches, but there is no pressure to redeem fast.

What if I want a printed card by Christmas Eve?

Stop by either location during open hours (Glenside 9 AM to 9 PM daily, Spring House 10 AM to 9 PM Wed–Sun and Monday) through Dec 24 and we will hand you a printed card in a sleeve with a hand-written calligraphy message. We are closed Christmas Day. For a last-minute Christmas Eve gift after we close, the e-card route works in under 5 minutes.

What is a good gift card amount for Christmas?

$50 covers a 30-min reflexology or a 30-min deep tissue. $100 covers a 60-min Hot Stone Massage or a 60-min Hydration Facial. $200 covers the 100-min Massage + Facial combo or a 60-min Candle-Lit Couples Massage. $300+ for couples, parents, or anyone hard to shop for. Custom amounts are fine too.

Can the recipient combine the card with a January promo?

Yes. Gift cards stack with any published package and add-on, including any January promotional pricing we run. The recipient does not need to pick the most expensive service to use the card — they can split it across multiple smaller visits or save the balance for later.

Are Tao Spa Christmas gift cards valid at both locations?

Yes. The same card works at both Tao Spa Glenside (106 N Keswick Ave) and Tao Spa Spring House (752 N Bethlehem Pike). The recipient picks whichever is closer or matches their schedule. Couples massage is a Glenside specialty; facials and waxing are full menu at Spring House.
